Definitions of Polyamory

Some of the ones we've heard used -- poly . . .

is loving more than one
is responsible non-monogamy
is about being able to love someone without it threatening your existing relationship
is about honesty and communication
is about freedom and not judging others
can be about recreational sex but it's more than that too
is about commitment, and building intentional family
is a self-identification
is an attitude, a belief system, a way of looking at the world

is the recognition that quality initmate relationships are determined by their content (do they support, celebrate, and respect all those involved?), not their form (genders, numbers, practices, or other arrangements involved). By their fruits ye shall know them.

many "definitions" of poly which seem to reflect each person's "The way I do poly" more than what poly *is*. To me, poly is an umbrella term used to describe a wide variety of life and love styles just as medication is a term used for a wide variety of drugs. My desired poly style(s) could be as useful to "you" as my particular set of prescription drugs.
